A few days prior to September 10th, John asked if I wanted to go crabbing. My schedule was clear and the weather according to the weather forecast looks great. By 10:00 AM John arrived at my place and by 11:00 pm we got to the beach and began setting up. I took a few scenic pictures of Barnet Marine Park before I went back to assembling all of the gear. Below is one of my favorite shots of the beach. The day was beautiful. The water is calm. There is always a park employee driving around collecting any garbage that might be left behind so the park stays extremely groomed. There were no one around since we were at the beach on a weekday. Normally, there are tons of seaweed pushed onto the beach but it was high tide and all of the seaweed was gone. The water looks crystal clear.
So I thought about posting a video of my catch which was asked by quite a few people. I brought an extra SD card for my camera to make sure I do not run out of memory and miss out on taking a video.
We dropped the first and second cage by 11:30 AM. I turned on my music on a portable speaker, ate my sandwich that John bought for us in the morning, Sat back and relaxed. By 12:00 noon when it was time to pull the first cage, we realized that we did not float far away from our original spot. The water was extremely calm so I pulled out my camera and took a picture (below)
First Dungeness Crabbing Video
Normally I would post a few pictures of me pulling up the cage but since John was nice enough to be my camera man, I have a small video of the first reel of the day. Enjoy!
It was quite exciting to catch that many dungeness crabs for the first crab cage. Even though many of them were undersized or females, we managed to keep 1 crab. The keeper was measured in at exactly 6.5 inches which is the legal limit up here in Canada.
After John put the camera down, he helped me with managing the crab pot and the dungeness crabs. I use a 4 man inflatable boat so there isn’t much room to maneuver. But the boat only cost me 90 dollars so I cannot complain.
Final Dungeness Crab Catch.
I am currently uploading the second video to the second crab cage so I will post that video at a future date. But until then, thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time.
