What the Intex Seahawk 2 comes with.
The Intex seahawk 2 comes with the inflatable boat along with 2 plastic oars, quick action dual hand pump, and a safety rope that wraps around the boat. The boat has 2 Boston vales designed to allow air flow into the seahawk 2 and prevents air from rushing back out. The box is only 49 pounds but the boat, fully inflated, will reach 93” x 45” x 16”. The box also comes with a repair patch and a small disposable adhesive bottle. I have used this glue with very poor results. I recommend going to any super market or fabric store and pick up vinyl adhesive. The best adhesives I have used to repair my inflatable boat are umbrella repair kits. This adhesive is water resistant and extremely strong. I have had half a dozen holes punctured into my boat and the vinyl adhesive fixes the problem and works great.
The 2 plastic oars that come with the box are not the best in quality. They feel like a children’s toy. I used them for a few trips and found them to be short and uncomfortable to use. I recommend picking up aluminum oars from Intex which are approx $19.99 from Amazon.com. I live in Canada so shipping from Amazon would not be cost effective so I picked up aluminum oars from my local fish store for $29.99.
The Intex Seahawk 2 fully inflated will reach 93 inch x 45 inch x 16 inch. This size will accommodate 2 people comfortably but can get tight if you are bringing on additional gear. The Intex Seahawk 2 has 2 fishing rod holders on both ends of the boat so your rods can hang out instead of getting in the way but unfortunately if you are looking to spend 4 to 6 hours out in the water, you might be better off by taking advantage of the bigger size on the Intex Seahawk 4 which will is approx 138in x 57in x 19in.
The Seahawk 2 has 3 air chambers for additional safety. If you ever discover a puncture on your boat, you have 2 additional air chambers to stay afloat and get you safely to the nearest shore. Having 3 chambers is a minimal standard when it comes to high quality inflatable boats such as the Intex Seahawk 2 and other Intex boats. For additional safety i recommend picking up a few good quality life jackets for yourself and each person on your boat. It is better to be on the safe side especially when you are going out onto the waters where there aren’t any life guards present or nearby.
I would give the durability level on this intex inflatable boat 8 out of 10. The material is made out of 30 gauge vinyl which is very strong and heat resistant. Similar high performance inflatable boats, such as the seahawk 4, mariner 4, excursion 5, and the sevylor fish hunter 360, use the exact same vinyl. The 30 gauge vinyl is not puncture proof but highly puncture resistant. I have accidentally crashed my boat onto rocks with barnacles and came out without any holes.
The Seahawk 2, once deflated, takes up very little room. I store the inflatable boat in a black garbage bag for transportation. By doing so allows any leftover sea water to stay inside the garbage bag and not drip in my car.
The Intex Seahawk 2 inflates extremely fast. It comes with a dual action hand pump but I recommend getting a rechargeable air pump to make this process easier. I can inflate the seahawk 2 in less than 10 minutes.
Transportation is a breeze since the boat can be deflated and will fit into any vehicle trunk with plenty of room for any other gear you may have.
Can I mount a trolling motor to it?
This is the quintessential reason why I chose the Intex Seahawk 2 and seahawk 4. Both models have mounting holes in the rear that can fit a trolling motor mount. The motor mount was purchased on Amazon.com and it has worked fine for me so far. I picked up a 30 pound thrust trolling motor from my local fishing store and went to a battery expert to pick up a marine battery.
The average price for this inflatable boat is $49.99 to $69.99. I have found them on sale at Walmart for $49.99 during their end of season sale. I found the same boat on Amazon.com for $59.99 to $69.99 and on Ebay for $69.99 to $89.99. A few of these sellers have included shipping into their prices as long as you live in the USA.
Best Boat for Dungeness Crabbing.
This inflatable boat is great buy for my crabbing hobby. The only issue is that I could not take friends onto the boat. I only use the Intex Seahawk 2 when I attend picnics and barbecues at the beach. The Intex Seahawk 2 is much smaller and easy to handle then my other inflatable boat. I often use this boat to go on short trips to check on the cage then park it on the beach while I enjoy my barbecue.
