One of the most popular size for inflatable boat is the 4 man boats. The problem for most is, there is no room left for anything else once you have 4 grown men inside the boat. Most of the Intex inflatable boat comes with a small gear pouch for your valuables (and other small objects) that could shift around the boat. Unfortunately, the little gear pouch isn’t enough and we want more. Intex and most inflatable boat manufacturers do not have a storage solution to this problem so I took things into my own hands.
Plastic Box Storage Solution For The Seahawk 4 Inflatable Boat
I was shopping at my local home hardware store and came across a small plastic box that would fit in the rear of my Seahawk 4 inflatable boat. I had been looking around for a plastic box around this size for a while but I was not willing to pay more than $ 5.00 for it. So when I saw the price tag of only $3.00, I had to get it.
The box wall is semi-transparent which is perfect for functionality. The lid is double flapped and is attached to the box so I do not have to worry about the lid falling into the water by accident. The length and the width was smaller than what I want but this $3.00 box is perfect for now until I find a plastic box that is bigger.
The plan was to drill 2 holes on each side of the box and run a small rope through the holes and the motor mounting kit. I was hoping that everything will work out according to plan so the next week, I took it out on the lake to test its performance.
To my surprise, the box works perfectly. The lake is generally very calm until a speed boat comes racing by. The box stays in place even though big waves came at the inflatable boat caused by the speed boats. I had a mini cooler, my valuables, lunch, and air pump inside the plastic box. Everything inside the box weighed the box down causing less shakiness. I am extremely pleased with the results and hope you guys with an inflatable boat can try this out.
Crabbing With More Storage Space
After 3 dungeness crabbing trips with the plastic box, I took out my camera and made a video about the plastic box for my inflatable boat. Enjoy!
The picture below is what the finished product looks like. As you can see, with the trolling motor attached behind the plastic box, the box cannot flip backwards. The box is very stable keeping my lunch, valuables and other miscellaneous objects out of the boat making a very comfortable boat ride.
